About LDC

Lancaster Designer Craftsmen was formed in 1946 as the Conestoga Valley Chapter, Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, and is one of the oldest chapters in the state. It is a membership organization which shares the same purpose as the State Guild: "To encourage and promote the Pennsylvania Crafts and Craftsmen".

Chapter meetings are held throughout the year, at the PGC offices on Queen Street in Lancaster. The dates for these meetings are listed on the "meetings & events" page, and include a holiday party in December and a suite at a Barnstormers game in June. Meetings provide an opportunity to share current work and new ideas with other craftspeople, and often learn new craft techniques! As a member you will receive regular e-mails to keep you informed of current events and an annual membership directory.

There is also the sister organization Market House Craft Center, which seeks to promote PA crafts as well and uses education as its means to do so. For more than 20 years MHCC has been producing the highly regarded Strictly Functional Pottery National show (SFPN), now held each Fall. LDC has produced the popular Art & Craft Show Directory for over 25 years, which is sold through local stores.

There are many ways to become involved in the activities and running of LDC and MHCC, as well as helping out with local events run by the State Guild, and we look forward to your participation and input. Even more opportunities become available once you attain Chapter Juried status, please contact any board member for more information. Of course, please feel free to contact any officer or board member if you have questions about our organizations.
Lancaster Designer Craftsmen is an organization of dedicated artisans who create traditional and contemporary crafts of the highest standards for the purpose of promoting an appreciation of artistry in the craft mediums, providing educational opportunities for the public through shows and fairs, and preserving and advancing our creative culture through crafts.
